How to evaluate a website

We spend really long hours with building websites, improving content and promoting them. After the hard work we are very curious about the result.

In general I don’t have to wait too long time for the deserved ranking change, but there are some interesting scale I commonly use to see the outcome from different aspects.

Let me introduce my favourite online tools:

  • The first one is appraise your domain, and the output is an amount. The valuation is mainly based on three different factors: the domain age, the number of inlinks, and the DMOZ and Yahoo Directory listing.

  • The page strength tool is developed by Matthew Inman and Rand Fishkin from the SEOmoz team. I think this tool is deservedly very popular among the online marketing experts.

SEO toolkit

This is my first post about my seo practice and I hope that you will find it usefull. At this point I would like to present my seo toolkit.

Firstly if you would like to optimize your websites you will need a good browser. I look at the firefox as a starting-point. I don’t want to talk you out of using internet explorer, but I think you would find the usability of firefox fascinating.

I list here the regularly used firefox seo extensions of course with the downloading URLs:

The first two let you know a lot of information about a given site, and the properies of the rivals for every keywords, keyphrases that you are curious about. Link popularity in the major search engines and so on.

For rank checking I usually use the free version of Web CEO which provides a lot of addiditonal valuable functions:

  • controls the quality of websites, and
  • helps to find linking partners.

For monitorizing the improvement of the traffic I suggest to use Google Analytics. Beside listing the keywords that bring traffic to your sites, with this service you will be able to measure indirectly the quality of pages by the content performance reports.

One more very important tool, which I almost forget. Be careful the broken links are the returning enemy of the good rankings. I suggest you to use the Xenu’s Link Sleuth regularly in order to explore the mistakes.
